PM urges Tanzanians to celebrate National Day safely at home

Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Nchemba has called on Tanzanians to mark Independence Day tomorrow, December 9, 2025, from their homes unless they have essential duties that require them to be outdoors.

Dr. Nchemba delivered the message on Monday while conveying President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s guidance on the national commemoration. He said the directive is aimed at ensuring a peaceful and orderly celebration.

“The government advises all citizens who have no urgent engagements on December 9 to take the day to rest and celebrate at home, except for those whose work obligations require them to be at their duty stations as directed by their supervisors,” he said.

Tanganyika now Tanzania Mainland attained independence from the British Empire on December 9, 1961, marking a historic moment that laid the foundation for the nation’s political and economic journey.
