The government has given the Tanzania National Roads Agency (TANROADS) 10 days to present a practical and time-bound action plan to ensure the completion of key road and bridge projects in Ileje District, as part of efforts to improve transport services and support local economic activities.

Deputy Minister for Works, Eng. Godfrey Kasekenya, issued the directive during an inspection tour of the 52-kilometre Isongole–Isoko road and the ongoing construction of the Sange and Kalewesi bridges in the district.

Eng. Kasekenya said the government expects the projects to be completed on schedule, noting that funds for their implementation have already been secured.

He stressed that delays are unacceptable, especially for infrastructure that directly affects the daily lives of citizens.

“I am giving engineers and contractors working on these projects 10 days to come up with clear solutions on how the works will be completed on time, without disrupting transport and communication services,” he said.

The Deputy Minister warned that from now on, any supervisor who fails to properly oversee contractors and ensure compliance with approved work plans will be held accountable, adding that effective supervision is key to achieving quality and timely delivery.

For his part, Acting TANROADS Songwe Regional Manager, Eng. Frederick Mande, said the agency is committed to ensuring that roads in the region remain passable throughout the year, particularly during the rainy season, so that transport and logistics services are not disrupted.

Ileje District Commissioner, Farida Mgomi, welcomed the government’s continued investment in infrastructure in the district, noting that the projects have created employment opportunities for youth and women.

She pledged the district’s full cooperation with contractors to ensure the projects are completed efficiently and deliver tangible benefits to the people of Ileje.
