Dodoma Regional Commissioner, Rosemary Senyamule, has described government drivers as an essential link in the country’s public service delivery chain, urging them to embrace professionalism and discipline to safeguard lives and state resources.
Speaking in Dodoma yesterday during the closing of the Fourth Annual Conference of the Government Drivers Association of Tanzania (CMST), Ms Senyamule said drivers are not only responsible for transporting officials but also play a critical role in ensuring efficiency across government operations.
She challenged the drivers to put into practice the lessons gained from the conference, which featured extensive training on safety, ethics, and efficiency.
“Your contribution goes beyond driving. By observing the law and using the skills you have acquired here, you are helping the government save lives, protect its assets, and deliver services more effectively,” she said.
The regional commissioner commended President Samia Suluhu Hassan for continuing to invest in infrastructure such as roads, bridges, and street lighting, which has improved the safety and working environment for drivers.
She also noted that the government’s acquisition of modern vehicles had created new jobs for young people in the public sector.
Deputy Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Works, Dr Charles Msonde, said the steady rise in conference attendance from 400 participants in previous years to 2,500 this year was proof of the association’s growing impact.
“This platform has helped sharpen the competence and professionalism of government drivers nationwide,” he observed.
For his part, CMST chairman Said Kapande highlighted achievements since the association’s formation, including the opening of an office in Zanzibar to strengthen unity among members.
He said membership in Zanzibar had increased from 150 to 260, reinforcing ties with their mainland colleagues.
The conference, which brought together nearly 3,500 participants, was held under the theme: “Government Driver: Avoid Accidents, Protect Your Vehicle and Other Road Users, Participate in the October 2025 General Election.”
