Mara Regional Commissioner, Colonel Evans Alfred Mtambi, has officiated the signing ceremony for major infrastructure development contracts in Musoma Municipality under the Tanzania Cities Transforming Infrastructure and Competitiveness Project (TACTIC), funded by the World Bank.
Speaking at the event, Col. Mtambi expressed deep appreciation to the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for channeling vital development projects to Musoma.
The initiatives, valued at TZS 19.975 billion (excluding VAT), are aimed at significantly improving urban infrastructure including roads, markets, and bus terminals.
Key projects under implementation include the upgrading of Mkendo, Shaabani, and Musoma–Saanane roads, the construction of the modern Nyasho Central Market, and the development of the Bweri Bus Terminal.
Mtambi emphasized that once completed, these projects will transform the cityscape of Musoma, enhance its attractiveness, and serve as a major economic catalyst for the region.
He noted that the investments will also create job opportunities, especially for youth and women.
In addition to the TACTIC projects, the Regional Commissioner highlighted other large-scale developments underway in Musoma, including the construction of Kwangwa Regional Referral Hospital, the expansion of Musoma Airport, and water supply projects that have now reached 98% coverage in the area.
He urged the Musoma Municipal Council to ensure the proper maintenance of the new infrastructure and called on contractors to deliver high-quality work within the agreed timelines.
He assured the public that the government will closely monitor all phases of project implementation to ensure transparency and value for money.
Mtambi also called on residents to prepare to take full advantage of the economic opportunities that will emerge from these improvements, including offering services to tourists and traders who will be drawn to the revitalized city.
