In a move to strengthen international cooperation and drive economic growth, the Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Albert Chalamila, on July 21, 2025, held talks with the Mayor of Dallas, Texas, Eric Johnson, at the Regional Commissioner’s Office in Ilala Boma.
Mayor Johnson, who is in the country with a delegation from the City of Dallas, discussed with Chalamila a range of opportunities to enhance collaboration between the two cities particularly in the areas of trade, investment, and tourism.
“We are keen on opening a new chapter of cooperation with Dallas, one of the most dynamic cities in the United States. Our discussion focused on ways to create partnerships that will bring benefits to both Dar es Salaam and Dallas,” said Commissioner Chalamila shortly after the meeting.
He emphasized that Dar es Salaam is rapidly positioning itself as a business and tourism hub in East Africa and stands ready to work with global partners to promote mutual prosperity.
The visit by the Dallas mayor is seen as a strong signal of the growing ties between Tanzania and the United States, particularly under the leadership of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, whose administration has prioritized economic diplomacy and international engagement.
“The presence of Mayor Johnson here in Dar es Salaam not only strengthens people-to-people connections but also opens up a range of opportunities for our entrepreneurs, investors, and young people,” Chalamila added.
Mayor Johnson expressed his admiration for the city's vibrancy and potential, noting that Dallas is interested in exploring joint initiatives that promote inclusive urban development, infrastructure growth, and business exchange.
This engagement marks a milestone in the internationalization of Dar es Salaam and supports ongoing efforts by the government to attract foreign investment and build lasting global partnerships.
