Twiga Stars dominate CECAFA opener with 4-0 win over South Sudan

Tanzania’s national women’s team, Twiga Stars, kicked off their CECAFA Senior Women’s Championship campaign in emphatic style with a commanding 4-0 victory over South Sudan. The tournament began today, June 13, 2025, at the Azam Complex in Dar es Salaam.

Tanzania wasted no time asserting their dominance, with Diana Lucas opening the scoring in the 8th minute following a well-executed team move.

In the 34th minute, Opa Clement doubled the lead, putting the hosts firmly in control. By halftime, Twiga Stars were cruising with a 2-0 advantage.

The second half saw continued pressure from Tanzania. Opa Clement found the back of the net once again in the 63rd minute, completing her brace and extending the lead to 3-0.

Just five minutes later, in the 68th minute, Clara Luvanga sealed the victory with a clinical finish, making it 4-0.

South Sudan struggled to contain the pace and precision of Tanzania throughout the match, failing to register a goal despite a few promising runs.
