The Tanzania Institute of Education (TET) has collected over TZS 2.6 billion in cash to support the national goal of ensuring every student has a textbook for each subject.
This is part of a larger TZS 35 billion fundraising campaign aimed at improving access to learning materials for students in both primary and secondary schools.
Speaking during the climax of TET’s 50th anniversary held in Dar es Salaam, Director General Dr. Aneth Komba said the funds raised so far are a step forward, but more effort is still needed.
“As of June 16, 2025, TET has collected TZS 2.626 billion in cash, and we have received pledges worth TZS 4.335 billion from various stakeholders,” she said.
The event was officiated by Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, who awarded certificates of appreciation to contributors who donated over TZS 25 million.
Among the top donors was Nyambari Nyangwine Group of Companies, a well-known publisher, which contributedTZS 110 million.
Dr. Komba urged more stakeholders to join the initiative. She noted that the goal of providing one book per subject for every student can only be reached if the public and private sectors work together.
“This campaign is key to improving the quality of education. Every student needs the right materials to learn effectively,” she said.
The event also served as a reflection on TET’s five decades of work in shaping Tanzania’s education system and promoting local content development.
