Beijing – Tanzania’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation,  Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, has arrived in Beijing for a high-level diplomatic visit aimed at strengthening strategic and economic ties between Tanzania and China.

Minister Kombo was received upon arrival on June 9 by senior Chinese Foreign Ministry official Xu Zhongsheng, alongside Tanzania’s Ambassador to China, Khamis Mussa Omar.

During his visit, Kombo will lead the Tanzanian delegation at the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Coordinators’ Meeting, scheduled for June 11–12 in Beijing.

The summit will focus on evaluating the implementation of key resolutions from previous FOCAC meetings and shaping future cooperation priorities.

He will also represent Tanzania at the 4th China–Africa Economic and Trade Expo, to be held in Changsha from June 13–15.

The expo is a key platform for deepening Sino-African trade and investment ties, with a particular focus this year on sustainable industrial development and cross-border infrastructure projects.

On the sidelines of these engagements, Minister Kombo is expected to hold bilateral talks with China’s Foreign Minister and senior Communist Party official, Wang Yi, to advance strategic cooperation across infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and digital economy sectors.

The Tanzanian delegation will also visit Sichuan and Shenzhen, where it will meet with regional leaders and major Chinese corporations in trade and investment.

The outreach is part of a broader government push to attract Chinese capital into Tanzanian priority sectors, including manufacturing, mining, logistics, and green energy.

Additionally, Minister Kombo is scheduled to visit Tanzania’s Consulate General in Guangzhou and engage with members of the Tanzanian diaspora, highlighting the role of the diaspora in strengthening bilateral people-to-people and economic relations.

This visit comes as Tanzania continues to position itself as a regional hub for trade and investment in East Africa, leveraging longstanding diplomatic ties with China and increasing interest from Asian investors.
