Police in Kigoma Region have said scientific investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of death of Suezi Dani Maradufu, a member of the opposition party CHADEMA and former driver to the party’s Deputy Chairman, John Heche.

Kigoma Regional Police Commander Philimon Makungu said in a statement issued on Friday, July 3, 2026, that samples had been collected from the deceased as part of an ongoing forensic investigation aimed at determining the precise cause of death.

He said the body was subjected to a detailed post-mortem examination conducted by a team of medical experts from Bugando Referral Hospital, working alongside specialists from Geita and Dodoma regions, with support from a senior officer from the Government Chemist Laboratory Agency.

According to police, the examination was carried out in the presence of leaders from CHADEMA and relatives of the deceased to ensure transparency throughout the process.

Police further said that after the post-mortem examination, additional samples were taken for advanced scientific analysis. The results are expected to help authorities establish the exact circumstances and cause of death once laboratory tests are completed.

Maradufu died on July 1, 2026, in a rented room at Ntahamba guest house in Kigoma Region. The incident sparked public concern and debate, with CHADEMA calling for an independent and thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Police have urged the public to remain calm and patient, saying the investigation is being conducted in accordance with scientific and legal procedures to ensure accurate findings.
