The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) is set to celebrate its 30th anniversary at a special event to be held on July 1, 2026, in Dar es Salaam. The celebrations will be held alongside the presentation of the Presidential Taxpayer Awards, which will recognize taxpayers who have made outstanding contributions to the nation's development through tax compliance.

The event, scheduled to take place at the Mlimani City Conference Centre, is expected to bring together government leaders, business executives, tax stakeholders, public and private institutions, and taxpayers from across the country in a historic occasion to reflect on TRA's achievements over the past three decades.

The 30th anniversary celebrations come at a time when TRA is implementing major operational and digital reforms aimed at simplifying tax compliance, improving service delivery to taxpayers, and enhancing efficiency in government revenue collection.

Over the past 30 years, TRA has become a key pillar of Tanzania's economy by ensuring the Government secures domestic revenues that have financed major development projects in various sectors, including education, health, water, road infrastructure, railways, airports, and energy.

The authority has also built a new image as a partner of taxpayers by emphasizing taxpayer education, embracing technology in service delivery, and promoting voluntary tax compliance. These efforts have significantly increased public trust and expanded the country's tax base.

A major highlight of the celebrations will be the presentation of the Presidential Taxpayer Awards, special honours established to recognize, appreciate, and encourage taxpayers who fulfil their tax obligations honestly and on time.

Through these awards, the Government aims to recognize individual taxpayers, companies, institutions, and business entities that have demonstrated exceptional patriotism by contributing to the growth of the national economy through the taxes they pay.

The Presidential Taxpayer Awards have continued to serve as a catalyst for promoting a culture of voluntary tax compliance while sending a strong message that taxpayers are indispensable partners of the Government in the country's development journey.

Furthermore, the celebrations are expected to provide an opportunity to reflect on the milestones achieved during TRA's 30-year journey, the challenges it has overcome, and the institution's future direction, particularly in strengthening digital systems, broadening the tax base, and increasing domestic revenue in line with Tanzania's growing economy.

Tax stakeholders and the public at large are also expected to use the celebrations as a platform to recognize the contribution of patriotic taxpayers who, for many years, have faithfully fulfilled their tax obligations, enabling Tanzania to implement major development projects and improve social services for its citizens.

The 30th anniversary of TRA symbolizes a journey of achievement, transformation, and partnership between the authority and taxpayers, while underscoring its commitment to building a strong, inclusive, and sustainable tax system that supports the country's long-term development aspirations.
