Mashujaa expect stern test against Yanga as survival fight intensifies

Mashujaa FC have acknowledged the magnitude of their upcoming Mainland Premier League clash against Yanga, describing it as one of the toughest fixtures of the season as both sides chase crucial objectives in the final stretch of the campaign.

The highly anticipated encounter is set for June 13, 2026, at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma, with Yanga seeking maximum points to bolster their title charge while Mashujaa battle to secure their place in the top flight for another season.

Mashujaa FC Manager Amir Athumani said the stakes could not be higher for either side, making the match a potentially decisive contest in the race for the championship and the fight against relegation.

“Every team has something important to play for. Yanga are pushing for the league title, while we are fighting to remain in the Premier League. That alone makes this a very difficult and competitive match,” Athumani told The Respondent Online.

Currently placed 11th in the league standings, Mashujaa are still not entirely safe from the threat of relegation and view every remaining fixture as an opportunity to strengthen their position.

Athumani said the club's immediate focus is to collect points against Yanga, stressing that even a draw would be a valuable outcome in their quest for survival.

“Our target is to get a positive result. Of course, we would like to win, but if that is not possible, then securing a point will still be important for our campaign,” he said.

The manager revealed that preparations for the match are progressing well, with the squad currently in camp sharpening tactics and fitness ahead of the season's decisive fixtures.

He also provided an encouraging update on the injury front, noting that midfielder Salum Kihimbwa has shown significant improvement and is edging closer to a return to action.

However, the team continues to monitor the recovery of key players Idrisa Stambuli and David Ulomi, who remain sidelined with injuries.

“We are hopeful they will recover soon because their experience and quality can make a big difference for the team at this critical stage of the season,” Athumani said.

Despite the injury concerns, Mashujaa remain optimistic about their chances against one of the league's strongest sides.

Athumani said the players understand the importance of the match and are prepared to give everything on the pitch to secure a result that could prove vital in preserving the club's Premier League status.

With Yanga chasing silverware and Mashujaa fighting for survival, the Kigoma showdown is expected to produce an intense contest between two teams with plenty at stake.
