Government lawyers have been urged to remain firm defenders of the State in handling civil litigation and arbitration cases involving the Government and its institutions, as part of efforts to safeguard national interests and public resources.

The call was made by the Solicitor General, Dr. Ally Possi, when he opened the Annual General Meeting of staff of the Office of the Solicitor General held in Arusha.

Dr. Possi said government lawyers carry a key responsibility of ensuring that the State is effectively represented in courts and arbitration processes, stressing that their work directly contributes to protecting public funds and advancing national development priorities.

“Government lawyers in the Office of the Solicitor General must understand that you have a responsibility to continue defending the Government in court proceedings in order to protect the interests of our nation,” he said.

He also called on staff to uphold unity, teamwork and professionalism within the institution, noting that a strong and coordinated workforce is essential for improving efficiency and strengthening public trust in government legal services.

The Deputy Solicitor General, Alice Mtulo, commended staff for their continued cooperation, saying their teamwork has helped raise the credibility and standing of the Office.

She noted that every employee plays a vital role in achieving institutional goals and improving service delivery.

“Every staff member is important, and each contribution matters in helping us achieve our set objectives,” she said.

Mtulo further reminded staff that the Government expects high standards of professionalism, discipline and accountability. She urged them to strictly observe laws, public service regulations, ethical standards and professional codes of conduct while executing their duties.

She emphasized that commitment, integrity and hard work remain key pillars in ensuring effective legal representation of the State.

The annual meeting, held once every year, brings together staff of the Office of the Solicitor General from across the country to review performance, share experiences, discuss challenges and explore ways of improving efficiency and staff welfare.

This year’s meeting was held over two days, May 21 and 22, 2026, in Arusha, bringing together employees from all 18 regions of Mainland Tanzania under the Office of the Solicitor General.
