The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Infrastructure has urged the Ministry of Works to closely monitor the construction of the academic building at the Institute of Construction Technology (ICoT) to ensure it is completed to the highest standards.
The call came during a site inspection of the four-story building, which has reached 74 percent completion.
The inspection was led by the Committee’s Acting Chairperson, Prof. Joyce Ndalichako, who praised the government for investing in the development of the institute.
“Completing this building will strengthen professional training and increase the number of skilled construction experts in Tanzania,” Prof. Ndalichako said, adding that the Committee will continue working with the Ministry to ensure the project meets contractual quality standards.
Minister of Works, Abdallah Ulega, told the Committee that the Ministry continues to allocate funds for the project, which will house academic department offices and classrooms capable of serving about 1,000 students at a time.
He thanked the Committee for initiating the project and for monitoring the institute’s progress to ensure it delivers its intended goals.
Committee member Anne Kilango Malecela also commended the government under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan for improving ICoT’s infrastructure and investing in the new academic building.
The project, valued at TZS 5.978 billion, is being carried out by local contractor B.H. Ladwa under the supervision of consulting engineers from the Tanzania Building Agency (TBA).
