BoT trains university students on key roles in Tanzania’s economy

By The Respondents Reporter

The Bank of Tanzania (BoT) has taken a step to educate university students on its central role in managing the country’s economy and promoting innovation in financial services.

Over 200 students from the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM), the Muslim University of Morogoro (MUM), and the Institute of Finance Management (IFM) participated in a hands-on training visit to BoT offices in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

The students were introduced to the Bank’s core responsibilities, including implementing monetary policies to protect the Tanzanian shilling, supervising financial institutions, promoting Sharia-compliant financial services, and fostering innovation to enhance efficiency and financial inclusion.

Speaking after the visit, several students said the program gave them a deeper understanding of the financial sector and inspired them to explore careers in economics and finance.

“This experience has opened our eyes to how the Bank contributes to national development,” one student said.

The initiative forms part of BoT’s wider efforts to strengthen public awareness and prepare young professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to support Tanzania’s economic growth.
