Tanzania’s role as a stable and influential nation in Southern Africa was underlined during the recent Extraordinary Virtual Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), where leaders praised the country’s peaceful political process and steady governance under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan.
Vice President Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, representing President Samia, said the government has prioritized national unity, reconciliation, and adherence to the rule of law.
He highlighted these efforts as key to Tanzania’s reputation as a model of stability in the region.
“President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan is committed to ensuring that reconciliation continues and that the nation remains united, peaceful, and inclusive,” Dr. Nchimbi said from Dodoma.
He emphasized that Tanzania remains a safe and welcoming country for international visitors, investors, and partners.
The summit also focused on regional leadership, following Madagascar’s decision to step down as SADC Chair. Leaders agreed to appoint South Africa as interim chair until August 2026, ensuring continuity in the bloc’s agenda.
SADC members reaffirmed the theme of the 45th Summit in Madagascar: “Strengthening Industrialization, Agricultural Transformation, and Energy Transition for a Resilient SADC.”
The focus highlights the region’s commitment to economic growth and sustainable development, with Tanzania poised to play a key role in these efforts.
Chairing the summit, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa was joined by Heads of State, Government representatives, and senior officials from all 15 SADC countries.
The gathering underlined the importance of regional cooperation, political stability, and Tanzania’s emerging leadership in driving development across Southern Africa.
