Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa, who has served as the Member of Parliament for Ruangwa since 2010, has officially announced that he will not seek re-election in the 2025 general election.
Mr Majaliwa made the announcement on Tuesday, July 2, during a meeting with the regional and district political committees of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) in Ruangwa.
He used the platform to express his heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ruangwa for their trust and support throughout his 15 years of service.
“The time has come. With the unity we have built over the years, it is now appropriate to give space to other development-oriented individuals from Ruangwa to carry this mission forward,” said Mr Majaliwa.
“Our slogan, Ruangwa kwa Maendeleo Inawezekana (Ruangwa for Development is Possible), should continue to grow stronger.”he added
The Prime Minister urged party leaders and members at the district level to offer full support to all aspirants who express interest in representing the constituency under the CCM ticket.
He also appealed to residents to maintain their unity and turn out in large numbers during campaign rallies and on election day.
“When our leaders, Her Excellency President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan and her running mate Dr Emmanuel Nchimbi, come to campaign, let us come out in numbers to listen to their policies and when the time to vote comes, let us give them overwhelming support,” he said.
Mr Majaliwa also extended his appreciation to President Samia and the CCM national leadership for the confidence they placed in him and the opportunity to serve Ruangwa at both constituency and national levels.
First elected in 2010, Mr Majaliwa’s 15-year tenure as MP has seen significant development in the area, including improvements in infrastructure, education, and health services.
His exit marks the end of an era and sets the stage for new political dynamics in the southern Lindi region as CCM prepares to nominate his successor.
The Prime Minister’s decision is expected to influence the political direction of Ruangwa, a constituency that has served as a stronghold for the ruling party for over a decade.
