Tanzanian giants Simba SC have reaffirmed their commitment to playing the highly anticipated Kariakoo Derby against rivals Yanga SC on Sunday, 15 June 2025 — and on no other date.
In a statement released by the club, Simba made it clear that they will only honour Match No. 184 of the NBC Premier League as scheduled by the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB), warning that any attempts to alter the fixture would be in violation of official football regulations.
“The club will not participate in any version of Match No. 184 other than the one scheduled for Sunday, 15 June 2025,” the statement read.
The derby, set to take place at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam, is one of the most fiercely contested fixtures in East African football.
With tensions running high and title implications often on the line, any disruptions to the match date are closely scrutinised.
Simba further called on their supporters to rally behind the team: “We urge our members and fans to turn out in large numbers and fill the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on this crucial day to show their unwavering support.”
The club’s firm stance comes amid speculation surrounding possible changes to the match schedule, though no official announcement from the TPLB has suggested a rescheduling.
