Fuel prices for June 2025 have brought continued relief to motorists across the country, showing a downward trend compared to May 2025, according to the Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority (EWURA).

In a statement released on June 4, 2025, EWURA announced that prices for petrol, diesel, and kerosene received through Dar es Salaam port have decreased by TZS 72.16, TZS 51.89, and TZS 184.93 per litre, respectively.

In Tanga, petrol prices dropped by TZS 69.41 and diesel by TZS 50.10, while in Mtwara, petrol saw a decrease of TZS 71.65 and diesel by TZS 51.37.

A three-month comparison (April to June 2025) highlights a consistent decline in fuel prices. At Dar es Salaam port, petrol prices dropped from TZS 2,905.34 in April to TZS 2,684.54 in June a reduction of TZS 220.80.

In Tanga, petrol prices fell from TZS 2,904.93 to TZS 2,750.34, a decrease of TZS 154.59. Mtwara also experienced a drop in petrol prices from TZS 2,811.36 to TZS 2,750.34  a reduction of TZS 61.02.

Diesel prices also fell over the same period: by TZS 60.17 in Dar es Salaam, TZS 115.25 in Tanga, and TZS 119.97 in Mtwara.

These lower retail prices for June reflect trends in the global oil market, where prices have declined by 0.9% for petrol, 3.4% for diesel, and 3.7% for kerosene. This global trend contributed significantly to the decrease in local maximum pump prices.

Additionally, the average foreign exchange rate declined by 0.63%, helping to ease fuel costs. However, fuel importation costs at Dar es Salaam port increased on average by 4.34% for petrol and 22.43% for diesel, while kerosene import costs dropped by 1.65%.

At Mtwara port, petrol importation costs rose sharply by 51.55%, with diesel costs remaining unchanged.

It is also worth noting that the new transportation tariffs for petroleum products as published in Government Gazette No. 5083 on April 25, 2025  were used in the computation of the new retail price caps, which took effect today.
