TANAPA calls for timely completion of tourism infrastructure

The Board of Trustees of the Tanzania National Parks (TANAPA) has today, April 9, 2025, issued a strong directive to the contractor responsible for building tourism infrastructure in Nyerere National Park, urging them to complete the projects on schedule, as stipulated in the contract agreement.

During an inspection of ongoing projects under the REGROW initiative within the park, TANAPA Board Chairman, Retired General George Waitara, remarked:

“The projects I have seen here are progressing well, and the quality of work is impressive. I would like to commend the Nyerere Park Management for their excellent oversight. However, I must emphasize that the contractor needs to ensure the completion of these works on time.”

Earlier, providing a progress report on the implementation of REGROW projects to the Board, the Assistant Conservation Commissioner, Ephraim Mwangomo, who also serves as the Chief Warden of Nyerere National Park, highlighted the significant improvements being made.

He noted that the new airport, now in its final stages, will play a crucial role in attracting more tourists, with both large and small aircraft capable of bringing in visitors and boosting government revenue from tourism.

“The Sixth Phase Government, through the REGROW project, has made significant strides in enhancing the park’s operations, benefiting not only the park itself but also the surrounding communities. Notably, we have constructed the Mtemere Gate, built modern guest accommodations at Mtemere with 20 rooms, developed a state-of-the-art airport, established a tourist campsite that can accommodate over 100 visitors at once, and provided modern housing for staff,” said Commissioner Mwangomo.

He also called on investors across the country to seize the growing opportunities in the park’s tourism sector.

“I encourage investors to come and explore opportunities in the hospitality sector here in Nyerere. With the substantial improvements to infrastructure, the tourism accommodation business is set to be a thriving and secure investment,” he added.
