Iringa — The Regional Commissioner of Iringa, Mr. Peter Serukamba, has applauded the Rural Energy Agency (RREA) for its initiative to distribute approximately 9,800 cooking gas cylinders in the region, a move aimed at promoting the adoption of clean cooking energy.
Speaking after the presentation of the REA project implementation report by Ms. Advera Mwijage, Director of Alternative and Renewable Energy Technologies, Mr. Serukamba commended Rea for its commitment to fostering sustainable energy solutions.
“I commend Rea for their efforts to distribute gas cylinders, which are crucial for encouraging the use of clean energy. Additionally, I appreciate their work in extending electricity to rural areas, and I urge continued collaboration with stakeholders, including major companies, to ensure these projects truly benefit the people,” he said.
Ms. Mwijage, presenting the report, revealed that the distribution of gas cylinders will target the districts of Kilolo, Iringa, and Mufindi as part of efforts to promote the use of safe and environmentally friendly energy sources.
She further announced that Lake Gas Company will begin distributing cooking gas in January 2025, enabling residents to access cleaner energy options.
In a related development, Ms. Mwijage encouraged Tanzanians to seize opportunities to build fuel stations by applying through Rea.
“The project will support the construction of fuel stations with storage capacities of 10,000 to 15,000 liters. I commend the government for its continued funding of such impactful initiatives,” she noted.
These efforts align with the government’s broader strategy to enhance energy accessibility and sustainability, particularly in underserved regions.
