Dar es Salaam. President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda a new Commissioner General for the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA)
His predecessor Alphayo Kidata has been removed from the position to the President’s office-State House as President's Adviser.
The appointment was announced on July 2, 2024 by the Secretary-General Amb. Dr. Moses Kusiluka in a press statement issued and signed by Director of Presidential Communication.
Before the appointment, Mr. Mwenda was Commissioner General of Zanzibar Revenue Authority (ZRA).
Kidata is being removed from TRA just few days after a
nationwide business strike held in protest of the over-taxation levied by
TRA.
Kidata was appointed by President Samia as TRA boss on April
4, 2021, returning to the position after being removed by the late Dr. John
Magufuli on March 25, 2017.
Among the things awaiting Yusuf Mwenda in the new position
are the over-taxation on businesses as the business community complaining about
it.
Yusuf Mwenda served as a Mikocheni councilor and Mayor of
Kinondoni from 2010/2015, while serving as a mayor, he was also a TRA staff.
