Dar es Salaam. Passengers
landing or waiting for late-night flights at Julius Nyerere International
Airport (JNIA) will soon no longer need to trek miles searching for shelter.
The Tanzania Airport Authority
(TAA) has announced plans to procure an investor to develop a four-star airport
hotel at the JNIA facility, according to the TAA’s Public and Private
Investment Opportunity book displayed at the ongoing Dar es Salaam International
Trade Fair, Sabasaba.
“The airport handles an average of
6,620 passengers a day, but the aerodrome does not have a hotel facility to
serve the existing demand. It is with this background that JNIA urgently
requires the Airport Hotel to serve its esteemed customers,” reads part of the
book.
This eight-storey (G+7) hotel at JNIA
will be developed through a private financing arrangement. The chosen investor
will design, build, finance, operate, and maintain the facility under a
long-term lease. The hotel will feature 250 rooms, including 186 standard
rooms, 50 executive rooms, and 14 VIP rooms.
On the ground floor, passengers and
visitors can enjoy bars, restaurants, banking services (ATMs), meeting and
conference rooms, hotel offices, and retail shops. The first to seventh floors
will house rooms, a spa, a casino, a movie theatre, a gym, a swimming pool, and
a breakout lounge.
“The project is expected to enhance
the airport’s service delivery by providing international standard
accommodation and other complimentary services to customers. It will create new
employment opportunities and increase government revenues,” the book reads.
A total of 28,116 square meters of
investment area with paved access roads, electricity sources, water management,
and other utilities have been secured under the JNIA master plan.
All tendering documents have been approved by
the Tanzania Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), and the TAA is now
searching for a potential investor.
This development is poised to
significantly improve the experience of travelers using JNIA, providing
much-needed amenities and boosting the local economy.
With the establishment of the new hotel, JNIA
is set to become a premier travel hub in the region, enhancing its reputation
on the global stage.
This project not only addresses
current needs but also positions the airport as a forward-thinking facility,
ready to accommodate the growing demands of international travel. Passengers
can look forward to a seamless transition from landing to lodging, making their
journey more comfortable and convenient.
